Netekanaal

This is a route for all you avid cyclists who like to go faster than normal on the road. It is a good area to go with the bike. However, you should avoid this route on days with a lot of headwind because it is a fairly long straight. Additionally, cars are not allowed on this straight, so you won’t have to worry about traffic.

Temse aan de Schelde

The Scheldt Bridge near Temse is an important link in the region and is part of the Temse skyline. It was designed by Gustave Eiffel. At 374 meters, the Scheldt Bridge is the longest bridge over water in Belgium and is also the last bridge over the Scheldt downstream to the sea. Additionally, the first bridge was designed by Eifel and completed in 1870. The Scheldt should definitely be on your list if you’re in the area.

Drie riviren stad Rumst

This lovely bridge was made for road bikes to pass. It is very nice to ride through an area where you will find beautiful nature, and various charming places to see. In the past, clay was extracted here to make bricks for buildings. Also, years of mining have created a unique landscape and panoramic views. Along the way you will repeatedly come across reminders of this past, such as clay pits or the remains of abandoned brick kilns.

Begijnhof Lier

This typical 13th century beatery with eleven streets and 162 houses was founded in 1258. In the center is the Church of St. Margaret. There is also a calvary, a convent and an infirmary, which later became an orphanage for girls. Moreover, at the entrance you will notice that Begijnhofstraat is accented by a monumental bluestone gate.

Oude stad met markplaats

The old town is a must-see with the Beaterio and the Belfry, which UNESCO included on the World Heritage List in 1998 and 1999. Right next to the bell tower, you can find the town hall. A tip of ours is to try one of the local specialties such as “Lierer Vlaaike”, a strong cake based on caramel syrup and four herbs. It’s over 300 years old and is one of the oldest regional cakes in the province of Antwerp. we definitely recommend that you try it!
