Castle of Leiden
Climb the Burcht van Leiden, the best viewpoint in the city and the oldest castle in Holland. Firstly, this ancient fortress is built on an artificial hill from the 9th century. I highly recommend you to climb to the top of the fortress. Lastly, there you can admire the view of the Hooglandse Kerk and the typical Dutch houses in the surroundings. Vismarkt
Enjoy the atmosphere of Vismarkt, the main square of Leiden. In the heart of the city, surrounded by the most important buildings, several charming bridges and the location of the weekly market. Vismarkt is a place you can not miss on any visit to Leiden.
Bridges
Cross all the bridges you see! In Leiden, as in all cities full of canals, there are many bridges to go from one side of the canal to the other. Firstly, right next to the Vismarkt square is the most beautiful bridge in Leiden, Koornbrug, with a beautiful architecture. Lastly, if you want more, very close to Koornbrug are two of the best bridges to see in Leiden: Catharinabrug and Visbrug. And both have beautiful views of the area.
City Hall
Admire the spectacular historic building of the City Hall; it is said to have the widest Renaissance facade in the Netherlands! It was built in the 16th century. Unfortunately, it suffered a major fire in 1929. So today, of the original building, only the main facade on Breestraat and the base of the tower remain.
