With City Game Haarlem, you can visit the mill which was built on the foundations of the Goevrouwetoren by Adriaan de Boois, an Amsterdam industrial producer. Firstly, the Goevrouwetoren, or Goede Vrouwtoren, had been the northern support of the city’s Catrijnenpoort, a defense work over the Spaarne River. Grote Markt

Some of the most interesting buildings are concentrated in the large market square located in the center of the city. Including buildings like the old Butchers’ Hall, built by Lieven de Key in 1603, which now houses the archives. You can also find the town hall, where the bourgeois met in arms. Lastly, the Grote Kerk can be found in the Markt, as well as a statue erected in 1856 to commemorate the printer Laurens Janszoon Koster.

Haarlem Station

The station was opened on September 20, 1839, on the Amsterdam-Rotterdam railroad. Firstly, the station building is a rijksmonument. The original station – made of wood – was built in 1839 on the Oude Weg just outside the Amsterdamse Poort. Lastly, it was made to accommodate passengers on the first railroad in the Netherlands between Haarlem and Amsterdam.

The Olyphant

Until 1688, the brewery De Olyphant stood in the center of Haarlem, of which only the building complex now remains. The two buildings on the Spaarne were registered as a national monument on 27 November 1969. And, the buildings have equal stepped gables. Lastly, the year of construction of the buildings is not entirely clear.

Cathedral of Saint Bavo

St. Bavo’s Cathedral is the cathedral of Haarlem, built between 1895 and 1930. This church was itself a replacement for the Sint-Bavokerk, which had converted to Protestantism from Catholicism in 1578. The cathedral is now the main cathedral of the Catholic diocese of Haarlem-Amsterdam.
