I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Which game suits a group that likes exploration?

Secrets of Mainz offers puzzles, photo tasks and stories about the Markt, the cathedral and the Gutenberg Museum. Your team follows this self-guided city walk on one phone using the free Loquiz app. At most four players can join a team. Pick it when friends want a mixture of exploring and working through tasks together. Different people can bring their observations to the discussion, so the shared activity involves more than just the person holding the screen as you walk through the city.

Where can our team follow a detective case?

Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Mainz gives you a detective case on foot through the centre. The route passes Marktbrunnen, Fastnachtsbrunnen and the Roman Theatre excavation site. You play at your own pace in the free Loquiz app, with at most four players sharing one phone. For a bachelor or bachelorette group, the mystery supplies a common story to work through together. Arrange several teams if more friends are joining, and give everyone a chance to contribute to the team's decisions during the walk.

What does the outdoor escape game offer?

The Mainz Syndicate (outdoor escape game) sends you after Magnus and the stolen formulas past Markt, Liebfrauenplatz and Gutenbergplatz. Up to five players can share a team phone, following the activity in the free Loquiz app. This is an outdoor story through the streets, with your team choosing its own pace. The five-player limit gives you another way to organise the guest list. Keep any competition friendly as friends share ideas, and use the chase as an active opening to the celebration.

How flexible are the start and booking?

Each Mainz game costs €19.95 per team and takes 1.5 to 2 hours. Budget for the teams you need within the four-player limit for exploration and detective play, or five for the outdoor escape option. Each team uses one phone. You can start whenever you want, every day, and the booking stays valid for 12 months. Agree on the story before arranging friends into teams. Then prepare the phones and leave enough room for the walk within your stag or hen plans.
