Hunt Magnus and the stolen formulas on foot through Toulon, from the Cours Lafayette to the Porte d'Italie, at your own pace.
Somewhere in Toulon, Magnus is sitting on a set of stolen formulas and counting on nobody being quick enough to find him.
The Syndicate is a code breaking game you play outdoors, on your own phone, at your own pace, with Toulon as the board. Loquiz handles the positioning — the game knows where you are and every location has its own riddle, code or photo task waiting. Because each player takes a character with a role in the mission, the group works the case together instead of watching one person work it.
You will pass Cathédrale Sainte-Marie-de-la-Seds, Église Saint-Louis and Musée national de la Marine. The case does not pause for the walking, and nothing you need is handed to you on screen — you have to be standing there and looking.
Musée d'histoire de Toulon et de sa région and Porte d'Italie are on the route as well, and somewhere along the way you start reading the city rather than walking through it.
An Outdoor Escape Room Alternative in Toulon
Everything an escape room does to your head, done outdoors instead. The logic is the same and so is the code-breaking; what changes is that the puzzles are bolted to real buildings and there is no door to shut. That solves the usual two complaints: two hours in a basement becomes two hours across 3 to 4 km of Toulon, and nobody is standing by with a hint or a stopwatch. You leave a puzzle behind by walking to the next street.
A Team Building Escape Game You Can Organise in Toulon Today
As team building events go, the setup cost here is close to zero: forward the link, let each team begin when it suits them. Nothing gets booked, nobody gets hired, and nobody has to be anywhere at nine sharp. The route through Toulon and the puzzles on it are already built, it runs about two hours over 3 to 4 km, and one €19.95 ticket takes a group of two to five on one phone. Split twenty people into four teams and they are all chasing the same man.
Who It Works For: Colleagues, Friends and Families in Toulon
Teams. Nothing to facilitate, nothing to reserve, no start time to police. One ticket per five colleagues, every group loose in Toulon on the identical case, and a comparison at the end of it. Several teams running at once is what makes it competitive, and competitive is what separates this from another afternoon that has to be organised.
Friends. The characters are what make it work with friends: everyone has a part in the mission and therefore something to argue about. A stolen set of formulas, a city to comb through, and no guide anywhere in sight.
Families. From roughly eight years old it lands properly, and the 3 to 4 km is an ordinary afternoon's walking. The youngest player is reliably the one who notices the thing on the wall, and cracking the codes is a joint effort.
Couples and pairs. Two of you, one phone, €19.95 for the case. There is no group, no departure time and no guide, so a long stop halfway through costs you exactly nothing.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Syndicate city escape game work?
You get a link by email and download the Loquiz app. At the starting point in Toulon you open the game on your phone. It knows where you are, and each location holds a riddle, a code or a photo task. Solve one and the next location unlocks, until you have enough to catch Magnus.
What is the story?
Magnus has stolen the formulas and you have to get them back before he disappears with them. Everyone in your group takes a character with their own part in the mission, which is what makes it a role-playing game rather than a list of puzzles.
Is this an escape room?
No. No room, no door, no host watching a monitor. What you get instead is an outdoor escape game on the open street, with the puzzle logic of an escape room and none of the ceiling.
How long does it take?
It runs about two hours, covering 3 to 4 km on foot. There is no time limit and no fixed start — you begin whenever suits you within 12 months of booking, so a slow group simply takes longer.
How many people can play on one ticket?
Two to five players share a single phone on one €19.95 ticket. More than five and you take a second ticket — which is the better arrangement anyway, since two groups on the same case can race.
Is it hard?
It sits at intermediate. Observation and lateral thinking do the work — local knowledge is not required, and nothing on the route is a dead end for a group that keeps at it.
Is it suitable for children?
Eight and over is the usual guide. Nothing about the 3 to 4 km is demanding for them, they tend to win the photo tasks outright, and they notice things on walls that adults have walked past twice.
Do we need to book a time slot?
You pick a date when booking; when you actually begin is your own affair. There is nowhere to assemble, nobody guiding and no group to catch up with.
What happens if it rains?
You decide when to play and you can pause whenever you like. If a shower comes over, step inside somewhere, wait it out and pick up where you left off — nothing is counting down while you wait.
What size group does it work with?
One ticket takes a group of two to five around a single phone, and larger groups split over more tickets. If a heist is not the story you want, the other city games in Toulon include a murder to solve or a scavenger hunt.

I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.
