I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Which dark stories does Strasbourg tell?
Strasbourg has old stories enough for a dark autumn walk. One legend says the devil once rode the wind to the cathedral, went inside and never came out, and the wind still waits for him around the square. That is why the corner by the cathedral feels so draughty, people say.
The history is darker than the legend. In the summer of 1518 dozens of people in Strasbourg began to dance in the streets and could not stop, an event still known as the dancing plague. And the name Petite France has a grim origin: in the 16th century a hospital there treated soldiers with syphilis, then called the French disease.

There are two games, both for €19.95 per team: one phone, at most 4 players. Each takes 1.5 to 2 hours.
Secrets of Strasbourg is played in the free Loquiz app. You look up at the cathedral façade, wander into Petite France, cross Place Broglie and come back to the main portal of the cathedral, solving puzzles as you go.
Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Strasbourg runs in the browser on your own phone, no app needed. Its story is based on Sherlock Holmes: you follow a murder case from the Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-Strasbourg to Petite France, the museum of modern art and the Ponts Couverts with their old towers. As the evening falls, the canals and narrow streets make a fitting backdrop for a crime story.
How is Halloween celebrated in Alsace?
Halloween is a fairly recent import in France and stays low-key in Strasbourg: some costumes, some carved pumpkins, children asking for sweets in a few streets. The bigger tradition comes a day later. On 1 November, All Saints' Day, families visit graves and bring chrysanthemums, and it is a public holiday.
That makes the last days of October a good moment to explore the old town in the dark. The cathedral glows red at dusk, the water in Petite France turns black, and a quiet walk with a puzzle in your hand feels just right for the season.
