I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

What dark history lies under Perugia?
Perugia's most chilling story is the Red Wedding of 1500. During the wedding celebrations of Astorre Baglioni, members of his own family burst in at night and murdered him and several relatives, part of a bitter feud for control of the city.
Forty years later Pope Paul III crushed Perugia after the Salt War and built the Rocca Paolina right on top of the Baglioni houses. Whole medieval streets disappeared under the fortress, and you can still walk through them underground today, lit by lamps, with the old house fronts around you. Deeper still lies the Etruscan Well, a huge stone shaft dug more than two thousand years ago.

Walking the route on a halloween Perugia evening
Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Perugia sends you from Fontana Maggiore through the old centre to solve a crime at your own pace. On the way you pass the Cattedrale San Lorenzo, the National Gallery of Umbria and the Rocca Paolina, and later the Oratory of San Bernardino and the Etruscan Well.
As the light goes early in autumn, the narrow lanes and steep stairways between those stops feel like a film set for a detective story. You play in the free Loquiz app on one phone, with at most 4 players per team, and the game takes 1.5 to 2 hours.
How does Perugia mark the end of October?
In Umbria the old tradition is not Halloween but All Saints and All Souls, when families visit the graves of their relatives. Perugia also has the Fiera dei Morti, a very old fair held around those days.
Halloween costumes and parties are newer, popular with children and with the many students in town. A city game fits in between: something a little dark, played outdoors with friends, family or colleagues, without needing a party.
