I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Halloween Kaunas: devils, candles and a dark past

Kaunas has an unusual link with the darker side of folklore: the city is home to the Devils' Museum, a collection of devil figures from Lithuania and around the world that began with the painter Antanas Žmuidzinavičius. It shows how much the devil, as a trickster, lives on in Lithuanian tales.

The city also carries heavy history. In the 20th century Kaunas was Lithuania's temporary capital, lived through occupation and lost most of its large Jewish community in the Holocaust. In 1972 the student Romas Kalanta set himself on fire in protest in the garden by the city theatre, which you pass on the game. These are real stories, told quietly, and they give an evening walk here a serious, haunting weight.

How Halloween and Vėlinės meet in Kaunas

In Lithuania the old time for remembering the dead is Vėlinės, together with All Saints' Day at the start of November. Families visit cemeteries and light candles on the graves, and on those evenings whole graveyards glow in the dark. Halloween Kaunas style is newer: costumes and parties have become popular with young people, while the candles of Vėlinės remain the deeper tradition.

Both suit a walk in the dark. The days are short at the end of October, the trees on Freedom Avenue lose their leaves and the street lamps come on early. That is the right mood for a game that makes you look closely at buildings you might otherwise pass without a second glance.
