I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Why is the Whaley House part of San Diego's ghost lore?

The Whaley House was built in 1857 on ground where the town gallows had stood. A few years earlier a man known as Yankee Jim Robinson was hanged there, and the Whaley family later said they heard heavy footsteps in the house. Since then it has become one of the best known haunted houses in the country.

Old Town itself is the place where San Diego began, with adobe houses, a plaza and a church from the Mexican and early American years. Its Mexican roots also show in autumn, when Day of the Dead altars and marigolds appear next to the pumpkins. On a dark October evening, the quiet streets and old buildings make a perfect setting for a game.

Which of our games fit a spooky night out?

The San Diego Syndicate (outdoor escape game) starts at the Whaley House Museum. You pick up the trail of Magnus and the stolen formulas, pass the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Presidio Plaza, and walk on to the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Restaurant. It is an outdoor alternative to an escape room, played in the streets, for 2 to 5 players.

Secrets of San Diego takes you through Little Italy. On the way you see the Guardian of Water, the Piazza della Famiglia and the old fire station, now a museum, with riddles and photo tasks between the stops. Both games use the free Loquiz app and take about 1.5 to 2 hours.
