Polish cities carry a rebuilt past and a fast present at the same time. Warsaw's old town was reconstructed after 1945 and now stands a tram ride from glass towers and wide boulevards. Kraków came through the war largely intact, with one of Europe's biggest medieval market squares and the Wawel castle above the river.
