I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Where will your family’s detective walk go?
Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Birmingham takes you from Victoria Square past the Town Hall towards St Philip’s Cathedral. Birmingham City Council and St. Paul’s Church also feature along the route. Your phone carries the detective information while the city provides the case’s surroundings. For a family day out Birmingham, share the route and story with the children before setting off, so everyone knows the activity you are choosing together. Look around as well as following the information during the walk. The case can then stay connected to the places you pass, with the family sharing both the investigation and its time exploring rather than focusing only on the screen throughout the outing.

How can parents and children follow one case?
The Birmingham game allows at most four players to share one phone as a team. Parents can read the information with the children and invite their ideas about what the case suggests. Give everyone time to understand the story before deciding what your family thinks, rather than letting the person holding the phone choose every interpretation. Discuss the murder-mystery theme together before selecting this activity. The outing is self-guided and you choose the walking pace yourselves. Keeping the information shared helps the case become a common conversation, with the phone supporting the whole family rather than separating one player from the group as you explore the route and work on the investigation together on foot.
What practical details should your family plan?
