I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

What can you appreciate at Cologne Cathedral?
Cologne Cathedral is the church landmark known as the Kölner Dom, at Domkloster 4 in Cologne. Its exterior offers an architectural focus during a walk through the city. Give everyone a chance to look up from the phone and take in the building before returning to the story. You can compare what stands out to different members of the group without making a separate tour part of the game. If you would also like to visit inside, organise that independently and leave additional time. A walking game is a way of connecting this landmark with other places around Cologne.

Which stories take you towards the cathedral?
Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Cologne and The Cologne Syndicate (outdoor escape game) both pass the cathedral. The detective walk leads from Alter Markt past Museum Ludwig towards the church. Along its route you also see St. Gereon and the Heinzelmännchenbrunnen. The outdoor escape story follows Magnus and stolen formulas from Alter Markt past Groß St. Martin towards the cathedral, with Fischmarkt also on the route. Pick the detective case if your group wants to investigate, or choose the pursuit if you prefer an outdoor escape game in the streets. Either gives you a story to discuss while discovering the city.
How do you choose for four or five people?
The detective game allows at most 4 players per team, while the outdoor escape game allows at most 5. Each costs €19.95 per team, uses one phone with the free Loquiz app and lasts 1.5 to 2 hours. Team size can therefore help determine which story is right for your outing. Within your group, share the reading and let everyone contribute ideas, rather than leaving all decisions to the person holding the phone. You can start whenever you want, every day. The game is valid for 12 months, so you can choose the experience before finalising the date you want to explore Cologne.
Does the cathedral appear on both routes?
Yes. Both the detective game and the outdoor escape game pass the cathedral.
Is the Syndicate an indoor activity?
The Cologne Syndicate (outdoor escape game) is played in the streets of Cologne.
Which option accommodates five friends?
The outdoor escape game allows at most 5 players per team. The detective game allows at most 4.
How should we prepare the phone?
Both games use the free Loquiz app, with one phone shared by each team.
