I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

What makes Aalst a good place for a spooky evening
Aalst is not known for one famous ghost, but its history has plenty of shadows. Inside St Martin's Church hangs a painting by Rubens of Saint Roch, the patron saint of plague victims, made for the city's brewers. It is a reminder of the centuries when plague swept through Flemish towns.
On an autumn evening the old centre does the rest. The medieval town hall and the belfry, which is on the UNESCO list of Belgian and French belfries, stand lit above the square. The narrow streets toward the church are darker and quieter. If you want halloween Aalst without fake cobwebs, a walk through these streets in the dusk is a fine way to spend it.

Which games can you play in Aalst
Aalst has two city games, each taking 1.5 to 2 hours, for €19.95 per team: one phone, at most 4 players. Both run in the browser on your own phone, so you need no app.
In Secrets of Aalst you explore the old centre around the Grote Markt. You pass the statue of Dirk Martens, the man who printed the first book in the Southern Netherlands, then Sint-Jozefscollege and the Borse van Amsterdam building, solving puzzles and photo tasks as you go.
The Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Aalst is a detective case on foot. It starts at the town hall, goes past Dirk Martens and the cultural centre De Werf, and leads you via the belfry to St Martin's Church. A murder case after dark suits Halloween well.

In Belgium, Halloween is mostly a costume party for children and students, while 1 November, All Saints' Day, is a public holiday when many families bring chrysanthemums to the graves. That makes the end of October a quiet, reflective time. A puzzle walk fits that mood: you walk together, read old facades and talk while you solve riddles. It works for friends, families, couples and colleagues. Use HALLOWEEN50 for 50% off all our games until 2 November.
