Halloween Dubrovnik: a dark detective walk in the old town
City games in Dubrovnik (1) ↓Halloween Dubrovnik is about stone, sea and long autumn shadows rather than plastic pumpkins. When the day trippers have gone and the lamps come on along the Stradun, the old town feels like a stage set for a crime story. With our city game you walk it at your own pace, phone in hand, solving riddles and photo tasks while a murder case slowly unfolds around the walls.

I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

The dark side of Dubrovnik's history
Dubrovnik's past has plenty of grim chapters, and you do not need invented ghosts to feel them. In 1667 a great earthquake destroyed much of the city and killed thousands of its people, including the rector. Later came the siege of 1991 and 1992, when shells fell on the old town and the scars were repaired stone by stone.
The old Republic also lived in fear of the plague. In 1377 Dubrovnik ordered ships and travellers to wait in isolation before entering the city, one of the first quarantine rules in Europe. Walk past the heavy gates after dark and these stories seem very close.

Halloween Dubrovnik: how Croatia marks the season
Halloween is not an old Croatian tradition, although costume parties have become popular with younger people in recent years. The day that really matters comes right after it: All Saints' Day on 1 November is a public holiday, and families visit cemeteries to light candles on the graves of their loved ones.
That makes an evening walk through the old town a fitting way to spend the season, quiet and a little eerie. Our ghost game Ghost Hunters is coming to Dubrovnik. Leave your e-mail address on this page and we will let you know when it starts.
