I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Ghost stories and dark history in Tokyo

Halloween in Japan is mainly a costume celebration, but Tokyo has a ghost tradition of its own that goes back to the days when the city was called Edo. The best known is Yotsuya Kaidan, the tale of Oiwa, a woman betrayed and poisoned by her husband, whose disfigured ghost returns to haunt him. It was first staged as a kabuki play in Edo in 1825 and is still retold today.

The city's history also has its dark days. In 1868 Ueno was the scene of the Battle of Ueno, where troops loyal to the shogun made their last stand in the city. Today Ueno Park is full of museums and paths under the trees, but the battle is part of its past.

What do you see on the halloween Tokyo route?

Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Tokyo takes you past Akihabara Electric Town, with its bright shop fronts, and into Ueno Park. From the route you also see Tokyo Skytree rising above the rooftops, lit up after dark.

The case then leads you towards Senso-ji Temple and Kaminarimon Gate. According to tradition, the temple was founded after two fishermen pulled a small statue of Kannon out of the Sumida River in the year 628. The gate is guarded by statues of Fujin and Raijin, the gods of wind and thunder, and its giant red lantern glows in the evening. Walking there in the dark, with a murder to solve, feels very different from a daytime visit.
