You walk at your own pace, solve riddles and photo tasks on your own phone, and start whenever you like. When the light fades early over the Mersey, the old docks and the stone warehouses feel a lot less friendly, which is exactly the point.

I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Dark history on the Liverpool streets

Liverpool's past has plenty of shadows, and you do not need made-up ghosts to feel them. The city grew rich on shipping, including the transatlantic slave trade, a history the city now faces openly at the Royal Albert Dock.

In May 1941 the Blitz hit Liverpool night after night, and the burnt-out shell of St Luke's church still stands as a reminder. Liverpool Cathedral rises above a former quarry that became St James's Cemetery, where the gravestones now sit in a sunken garden below the great sandstone walls. William Huskisson, often named the first widely reported railway casualty in 1830, is buried there. On a dark October evening these places speak for themselves.

A murder mystery for your Halloween night

Our Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Liverpool is a self-guided detective case that you play on foot. The story is based on Sherlock Holmes, and you follow clues from the Nelson Monument down to the Royal Albert Dock.

On the way you pass the Liverpool Waterfront, the brick warehouses of the Royal Albert Dock and The Beatles Story, before the route heads towards Liverpool Cathedral. It takes 1.5–2 hours, and you play it in the free Loquiz app. Around Halloween the early dusk, the wind off the river and the lit-up dock buildings give the case a properly eerie feel.
