I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Why pause on Kohlmarkt during your walk?
Kohlmarkt is a street in Vienna where you can take a moment to look along the surrounding building fronts. A street stop feels different from a single monument: you can compare the view ahead with the details immediately beside you. That makes it a useful change of pace during a walk with friends or colleagues. Keep your sightseeing pause separate from solving a task so everyone has time to look around. You decide whether to linger over the streetscape or continue with the story; the games are self-guided and played at your own pace.

Which stories take you past the street?
Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Vienna and The Vienna Syndicate (outdoor escape game) both pass Kohlmarkt. The detective game takes you through the first district, from the Hofburg to Stephansdom. Along the way you see Stephansdom, the Wiener Pestsäule on the Graben and Haas Haus. If you prefer a pursuit involving Magnus and stolen formulas, choose the outdoor escape game. Its route brings you past the Pestsäule, Peterskirche and Ankeruhr. These are things you see during the walk, giving your group more to talk about between moments spent working on the story together.
How do you choose and organise a team?
Both games last 1.5 to 2 hours and cost €19.95 per team, with one phone used for play. The detective option allows at most 4 players; the outdoor escape game allows at most 5. Both use the free Loquiz app. Choose by the story your group wants to follow and the number of people sharing the phone. A couple can discuss decisions together, while friends can take turns reading and contributing ideas. You can start whenever you want, every day, and your game remains valid for 12 months, so you can settle the day before choosing the precise starting time.
Does the detective route include Kohlmarkt?
Yes. Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Vienna passes the street during its self-guided detective walk.
Is the Syndicate played inside?
The Vienna Syndicate (outdoor escape game) is played in the streets of Vienna.
What should we use to play?
