I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Why a detective game works for a stag do

A good stag do needs an opener that gets everyone involved, including the friends who have only just met. A detective game does exactly that: there is a crime, there are suspects, and every team wants to crack the case first.

Each team plays on one phone with at most 4 players. With eight or twelve people, you simply form two or three teams and set off at the same time. Someone reads the clues, someone takes the photos, and there is always one person with a wild theory. At the end you compare results, and the winning team gets bragging rights for the rest of the day.

Where the route takes you in Hannover

The case leads you through the old town of Hannover on foot. Along the way you pass the Aegidienkirche, the Altes Rathaus, the Marktkirche and Ballhofplatz.

At every stop a riddle or photo challenge brings you one step closer to the answer. It is an easy way to see the historic centre without a guided tour, and the groom can play lead detective or, if his friends decide so, the main suspect in every photo. Expect plenty of laughs as the teams argue over who did it.

Price, play time and what you need

The game costs €19.95 per team: one phone, at most 4 players. For a bigger group, you book one more team for every extra group of up to four.

Plan on 1.5 to 2 hours of walking and puzzling. That makes it a good start to the day, with plenty of time left for whatever else you have planned. All you need is a charged phone per team. There is no guide and no fixed start time, so you choose the day and the hour that suit your group.

Tips for a smooth bachelor party in Hannover

Charge the phones the night before and bring a power bank if it is going to be a long day. Wear comfortable shoes, because you are on your feet the whole game.

Mix the teams so that friends from different parts of the groom's life get to know each other, and give each team a slightly silly name in his honour. Save the best photos from the challenges for the wedding speech. And if you are celebrating a bride, the same game works just as well for a bachelorette party in Hannover.
