I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Which game can families play in Hannover?
The game is the Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Hannover, a self-guided case that leads you through the old town, from the Marktkirche to the Opernhaus. The story is inspired by Sherlock Holmes, and the whole family works on it as one team.
On the way you pass the Aegidienkirche, the brick Altes Rathaus, the Marktkirche and the cosy Ballhofplatz, and you stop by the Historisches Museum Hannover. Every stop brings a clue, a question or a photo task, so there is always something to look for. Kids love spotting the details the grown-ups walk straight past.

Why do children enjoy it?
Because they get a mission. Instead of trailing behind the adults, the kids lead the way: they search for details, read the clues out loud and point at suspects. The photo tasks give them a reason to look up at facades, doors and towers.
The grown-ups help with the trickier riddles, so everyone has a role. There is no rush. You can stop for an ice cream or a rest on a bench and carry on where you left off. At the end, the old town feels like an adventure you shared, not just another sightseeing walk.
How much does it cost and how does it work?
The price is €19.95 per team: one phone, at most 4 players. Bigger family? Split into two teams and see who scores more points.
You play in the browser on your own phone, so there is no app to download. Start any day and at any time you like, and your purchase stays valid for 12 months. Plan for 1.5 to 2 hours of easy walking through the centre, breaks included if you need them.
Practical tips for the day
Charge your phone before you set off and bring water and a snack. Comfortable shoes help, as the whole game is on foot, and the route through the old town works with a pushchair if you take it slowly. In Hannover the weather can turn, so pack a rain jacket just in case.
Let the kids take turns holding the phone and reading the clues. If someone gets tired, take a break; the game waits for you. And when you finish, find a spot to sit down and talk about who you suspected all along.
Is it suitable for young children?
Yes. Children who can read enjoy the clues most, but younger ones have fun spotting details and taking photos with the family.
How long does the game take?
Between 1.5 and 2 hours, with breaks whenever you like.
How many people can play on one phone?
One team is one phone with at most 4 players. Larger families can play as two teams.
Do we need an app?
No, you play in the browser on your own phone.
Do we have to book a time slot?
No. You start whenever you want, and your purchase stays valid for 12 months.
