I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

What are you trying to recover for Theseus?
Secrets of Athens asks you to piece together clues to recover the lost clew that once led Theseus from the labyrinth. You see Syntagma Square, Stoa Emporon and the Metropolitan Church of Athens along the route. The myth gives your family a shared aim as you walk. Ask each person what they think the clues suggest before making a team choice, so the children can influence the search too. This game runs in the browser on your own phone, with no app needed to begin the quest.

Where does a detective investigation take you?
Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Athens follows a case from Zappeion Hall past the Temple of Olympian Zeus to the Panathenaic Stadium. Along the route you see Hadrian's Arch, the Turtle Pond in the National Garden and the National Historical Museum on Stadiou. This family day out Athens puts a murder investigation at the centre of the walk, so discuss the premise with your children before choosing. Let family members explain their theories rather than rushing to one answer. You use the free Loquiz app for the detective story.
How can you prepare one phone for the family?
An Athens game costs €19.95 per team: one phone, at most 4 players, and takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. Agree that instructions will be read aloud and that everyone gets a chance to contribute. The person carrying the phone can then help the team stay involved.
