I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Which dark myths and stories come from Athens?
Athens is the city of Theseus, the hero who went into the labyrinth of Crete, killed the Minotaur and found his way out with a thread. That myth is at the heart of Secrets of Athens.
The real history has dark pages too. In 430 BC a plague struck the city during the war with Sparta and killed many Athenians, among them their leader Pericles. In 399 BC Socrates was sentenced to death here and drank hemlock. And in 1687 a Venetian cannonball hit the gunpowder stored in the Parthenon, blowing a large part of it apart.

Halloween Athens: which games can you play?
There are two games, each for €19.95 per team: one phone, at most 4 players. Both take 1.5 to 2 hours and run in the browser on your own phone, no app needed.
In Secrets of Athens you help Theseus recover the lost thread that once led him out of the labyrinth. You start at Syntagma Square, pass the Stoa Emporon and the Metropolitan Church, and look up at the Acropolis.
Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Athens has a story based on Sherlock Holmes. The case takes you past Hadrian's Arch, the turtle pond in the National Garden and the National Historical Museum on Stadiou. Nearby stands the Temple of Olympian Zeus, which took around 700 years to finish.
Does Athens celebrate Halloween?
Halloween is not a Greek tradition. You will see some costumes and pumpkins in bars and shops, but the real dressing-up season in Greece is Apokries, the carnival before Lent. The dead are remembered on the Saturdays of Souls, with boiled wheat called kollyva, and on 28 October the country marks Ochi Day.
For a Halloween outing that is a good reason to make your own: a walk through the old centre at dusk, with ruins lit up against the night sky and a mystery to solve on your phone. The autumn evenings are mild, which makes the walk easy.
What is a good plan for Halloween Athens evenings?

Do I need an app?
No, both games run in the browser on your own phone. You do not need to install anything.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes, families can play together. The myths of Theseus and the Minotaur make the walk exciting for older children.
