I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

What can you notice on Ballhofplatz?

Ballhofplatz is a square in Hanover where you can pause during your city exploration. Look at the whole space before focusing on the buildings around its edges. A short break from the phone helps you notice the actual setting rather than only follow the next instruction. Compare what caught your teammates’ attention without adding another quiz. Afterwards, return to your game and continue the walk with a shared purpose. The square can be one sightseeing moment within a wider activity that takes your group through more of the city.

Which detective route passes the square?

Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Hanover passes Ballhofplatz on a route from Marktkirche to the Opernhaus through the old town. Along its route you see Aegidienkirche, Altes Rathaus, Marktkirche and Ballhofplatz. Choose it if investigating a case interests your group. Let different teammates explain a possible answer before deciding what to enter. Someone without the phone may offer a useful idea. That gives everyone a role and keeps the activity shared while you walk, rather than leaving each choice to the person holding the device.

Which chase and exploration options can you compare?

The Hanover Syndicate (outdoor escape game) also passes Ballhofplatz, tracking Magnus and the stolen formulas from Karmarschstraße past Marktkirche. You see Altes Rathaus, Marktkirche and Ballhofplatz along its route. It is an outdoor escape game on the streets. Another choice is Secrets of Hanover, starting at Holzmarkt with puzzles and photo tasks in the old town. Choose it for varied exploration tasks; for Ballhofplatz, Sherlock and The Syndicate are the named passing routes. Agree on the story before setting out so everyone knows the activity your group selected to play together.
