I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Why notice the square during a city game?

Kröpcke is a central square in Hanover that is passed by the detective and Syndicate games. It gives your walk an open city space to notice between individual buildings and streets. Look at how the surrounding routes meet before continuing with your chosen activity. A game adds a shared purpose to those transitions, connecting sightseeing with something your group does together. You can discuss a murder investigation or follow a formula pursuit through the streets. Decide which theme everyone would enjoy before setting off, so the square becomes one recognisable moment in a wider outing you share on foot.

Which stories take you past Kröpcke?

Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Hanover passes the square during a case from Marktkirche towards the Opernhaus. You see Aegidienkirche before Altes Rathaus, then Marktkirche and Ballhofplatz. The Hanover Syndicate (outdoor escape game) also passes Kröpcke, pursuing Magnus and stolen formulas from Karmarschstraße past Marktkirche. Its route includes the old town hall, then Marktkirche, Ballhofplatz and Kröpcke. For a discovery alternative, Secrets of Hanover starts at Holzmarkt with puzzles and photo tasks in the old town. Choose the discovery game if varied activities appeal to your group, or pick a story-led route if you prefer following a continuing case or chase together.

What helps you arrange the walk with your group?

The Hanover games take 1.5 to 2 hours and cost €19.95 per team. Play on one phone using the free Loquiz app. Secrets and Sherlock Holmes allow at most 4 players per team; The Syndicate allows at most 5. Check that limit alongside the theme when deciding which activity suits your friends, partner or colleagues. You can begin whenever you want, every day, and your game remains valid for 12 months. Once the game is chosen, agree on a convenient time to meet and allow the playing time in your visit. That leaves room to plan the rest of your outing together.
