I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Why take a moment on Universitätsplatz?

Universitätsplatz is a square in Heidelberg that you can see during the featured detective and outdoor escape games. It gives you a broader city view between walking through streets and focusing on individual buildings. Let your companions take in the surroundings before returning to the phone. A square can be a useful place to compare what different people noticed on the walk so far, without turning that conversation into another game task. The outing is self-guided, so you determine how quickly to move on. Plan any separate visits around the city independently of the time you reserve for play.

How do the detective and pursuit routes differ?

Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Heidelberg passes Universitätsplatz on a detective walk that includes Alte Brücke, Marktplatz and Heiliggeistkirche. You investigate a murder case as you explore on foot at your own pace. The Heidelberg Syndicate (outdoor escape game) follows Magnus and stolen formulas from Universitätsplatz through the old town towards Karlsplatz. Along that route you also see Heiliggeistkirche and the Rathaus. Decide which premise gives your group more to talk about: a detective investigation or a pursuit through the streets. Both connect the square with other city places, giving your walk an activity to share rather than only a destination.

Which team size and phone setup apply?

The detective game permits at most 4 players per team, while the outdoor escape game permits at most 5. Each costs €19.95 per team and lasts 1.5 to 2 hours, using the free Loquiz app on one phone. Choose the story that fits the number of companions coming with you, then select the shared device before you begin. Everyone can discuss the decisions even if only one person reads the screen. You can start whenever you want, every day, and the game stays valid for 12 months. This leaves you free to agree on a suitable day for your group to explore Heidelberg together.

Does the pursuit begin at Universitätsplatz?

The outdoor escape story is described as going from Universitätsplatz through the old town towards Karlsplatz.

Can five people share one team?

The Heidelberg Syndicate (outdoor escape game) allows at most 5 players per team.

What is the duration of the detective walk?

Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Heidelberg lasts 1.5 to 2 hours.

Is an app required for either option?

Both featured games use the free Loquiz app on your own phone.
