I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

The Lindwurm legend of Klagenfurt

The town's founding legend tells of a winged dragon that lived in the marshes near the Wörthersee and attacked travellers and cattle. Brave young men caught it with a bull on a chained hook, and the town was built on the drained land.

The Lindwurmbrunnen on the Neuer Platz shows the beast in stone, with Hercules facing it. The model for its head is said to be a skull found near Klagenfurt in the 14th century, later identified as that of a woolly rhinoceros. A fitting start for a walk on a dark October evening.

Halloween and All Saints in Carinthia

Halloween in Austria is a recent import, mostly costume parties and children knocking on doors in the evening. The older custom follows on 1 November, All Saints' Day, a public holiday when families visit graves and light candles, with All Souls' Day on 2 November.

So a halloween Klagenfurt evening can be quiet: candle light in the windows, cool air off the lake and empty lanes in the old town. That is exactly the setting for a detective case, with the dragon watching from its fountain.

A murder mystery from the dragon to the cathedral

Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Klagenfurt takes you on foot from the Lindwurmbrunnen across Alter Platz, the oldest square in town, to the cathedral. Further on the route you pass Maria Loreto Castle and Minimundus, while you question suspects and solve riddles as a team.

You play in the browser on your own phone, no app needed. The price is €19.95 per team: one phone, at most 4 players. Use the code HALLOWEEN50 for 50% off all our games, valid until 2 November.
