I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

How we check reviews

These reviews were left by players on Google and other review sites and are copied from there as they are, with their source.

How can you appreciate the arena during a walk?

Arena di Verona is an amphitheatre at Piazza Bra 1 in Verona. Its curved form gives your group a different architectural focus from the squares and building fronts elsewhere on the routes. Pause to look at the exterior before returning to your chosen game story. A stop like this helps everyone enjoy the sightseeing, including companions who prefer looking at places to reading from the phone. The game is a walking activity across the city; organise any separate arena visit independently and add time around the game if you want to include that too.

Which game gives your Verona walk a story?

Secrets of Verona passes the arena while you join Dante Alighieri on a quest to recover a missing page of The Divine Comedy. Along the route you see Piazza delle Erbe, the Romeo and Juliet balcony and the arena. Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Verona also passes the arena, on a detective walk from Piazza Brà towards Piazza Erbe. Its route also includes Piazza dei Signori. Choose the literary recovery quest if that fictional premise appeals to your companions, or the detective mystery if an investigation gives you more to discuss together as you walk between city sights.

What do the games cost and how do they run?

Both Verona games cost €19.95 per team, last 1.5 to 2 hours and allow at most 4 players sharing one phone. Secrets of Verona works in the browser on your own phone, with no app needed. The detective game uses the free Loquiz app. Choose the setup and story before setting out, then share the discussion so everyone can participate regardless of who handles the device. You can start whenever you want, every day, and the game is valid for 12 months. This keeps the date flexible while you organise the outing around your companions' other plans.
