I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

How we check reviews

These reviews were left by players on Google and other review sites and are copied from there as they are, with their source.

Which detective route includes the museum?

Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Giethoorn includes Museum De Oude Aarde and Museum ’t Olde Maat Uus along its route, leading towards the Gloria Maris shell collection. These real places provide surroundings for a fictional case your group investigates on foot. Notice the museum during the outing and arrange any visit inside independently of the game. Your companions can compare possible explanations before choosing an answer together, with each player able to offer an observation or question. Share the current prompt so the reasoning stays open to everyone. This keeps the investigation collaborative while leaving attention for the village rather than concentrating only on the next step shown on the shared phone throughout the walk.

What discovery walk can you choose instead?

Secrets of Giethoorn offers puzzles and photo tasks along Binnenpad, canals, bridges and old village houses. Its route includes a historic facade near Binnenpad, a Canal Boat Scan Point, an Ironwork Doorway and an Open Water Viewpoint in that sequence. Choose this discovery format if your companions prefer varied tasks to following a detective plot. The game is a walking activity, with the route’s named scan point a place to encounter rather than a separate boat outing to assume. Agree on which adventure interests everyone before selecting a game, then focus on one shared activity together. Each player can contribute observations and possible answers, helping the group decide how to continue exploring on foot.

How do one team’s price, time and phone work?

Both listed adventures cost €19.95 per team, take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours and allow up to four players sharing one phone. They use the free Loquiz app. Flexible daily starts and 12 months of validity let you choose a suitable occasion for the outing. Leave room in your plans for the walk and its tasks, giving separate visits their own time. During play, read prompts aloud or show the screen so every companion understands the current challenge. Different interpretations can make the next answer a shared discussion, keeping all players involved even when someone else carries the device and enters the response that the group has agreed on together.
