I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

What do the four-player options involve?
Secrets of Essen starts on Burgplatz and guides you through the centre with puzzles and photo tasks. Along the way you see Kreuzeskirche and Jahrhundertbrunnen. This self-guided exploration game gives friends varied tasks to approach together as they walk, sharing one phone within each small team.
Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Essen follows a detective case from Marktkirche past the cathedral to Alte Synagoge. Choose it when your party wants a mystery to discuss rather than an exploration-led activity. Both games have a maximum of four players per team and use the free Loquiz app. Settle on the game style before arranging which friends will share each team phone.

Where does the outdoor escape story take us?
The Essen Syndicate (outdoor escape game) takes your team after Magnus and the stolen formulas past Burgplatz, Essener Dom and Kettwiger Straße. It uses the free Loquiz app and allows at most five players per team. The streets provide the setting for a story you follow at your own pace.
For a bachelor or bachelorette party, the five-player limit can influence how you divide the guest list. Each team has one phone, with everyone able to suggest ideas and help make decisions. Choose this option when your friends want a shared outdoor chase to open the day. As you guide yourselves, keep the rivalry relaxed and make the activity a common experience for the group.
What are the booking and timing basics?
An Essen game costs €19.95 per team for 1.5 to 2 hours of play. The exploration and detective choices allow four players each, while the outdoor escape choice allows five. A larger party needs several teams, each using its own phone, so work out that number when planning your activity budget.
You can begin on any day whenever you want. Your booking is valid for 12 months, giving you flexibility to arrange the group's start. Choose your story and teams before meeting, then prepare the phones for play. Allow sufficient room for the walk in the day's plans. No guide leads the activity, so your friends organise their own beginning and follow the game together.
