I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Which detective adventure passes the church?
Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Gelsenkirchen passes Holy Cross Church during a fictional investigation on foot. The case follows a walk from Ahstraße past Heinrich-König-Platz to Hans-Sachs-Haus, giving your group real locations to encounter while discussing clues. Notice the church respectfully during the outing and arrange any interior visit independently of the game. Your companions can compare possible explanations before choosing an answer together. Make the prompt accessible to everyone so each person can contribute an observation or question. The phone provides the case, but the city remains part of the experience, with changing surroundings to look at as you share the reasoning and decide how to continue the adventure.

What does the discovery game explore?
Secrets of Gelsenkirchen includes Propsteikirche St. Augustinus, Wissenschaftspark, Altstadtkirche and Musiktheater im Revier in that walking sequence. The self-guided exploration game takes your group past churches and city centre landmarks, providing a different activity from the detective investigation. Choose it if this discovery format interests your companions more than a fictional case. Agree on which game everyone wants before setting out, then focus on that one adventure together. Each player can add observations and ideas along the route, making the next answer something the group discusses rather than a decision left to a single person. Keep separate interior visits outside the walking activity and give each part of your day its own time.
What should your team know before starting?
Both listed games cost €19.95 per team, take about 1.5 to 2 hours and allow up to four players sharing one phone. They use the free Loquiz app. Flexible daily starting times and 12 months of validity let you choose a suitable occasion for the outing. Leave enough space for the walk and the tasks rather than rushing into another plan. During play, read prompts aloud or show the screen to your companions so everyone knows the current challenge. Comparing interpretations can make the next response a shared discussion, keeping each player involved even when someone else is carrying the device and entering the answer the team has agreed on together.
