I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

What makes Knokke spooky in autumn?

Knokke is best known as a smart summer resort, but in late October the mood changes. The crowds are gone, the sea is grey, the wind blows sand across the promenade and the lights come on early. That emptiness is what makes an evening walk here feel a little eerie.

There is also something surreal waiting on the route. The Grand Casino Knokke is known for the large painted room by René Magritte, The Enchanted Domain, full of strange dreamlike scenes. We do not know of old ghost stories told about Knokke, so we will not invent any: the sea, the dark and a good riddle are enough for a proper Halloween outing.

How do people celebrate Halloween in Knokke?

Halloween is a newer custom in Belgium. Children dress up, pumpkins appear in shop windows and families look for something spooky to do around 31 October. The day after, 1 November, is All Saints' Day, a public holiday when many Belgians bring chrysanthemums to the graves of their family.

That long autumn weekend is a good moment for a trip to the coast. You can spend halloween Knokke style with friends, your family or your partner: a walk through the dark streets, a mystery to solve together and a warm drink afterwards.

Secrets of Knokke: the route

In Secrets of Knokke you trace clues through salt air, historic streets, bright boutiques and dunes to find the unflattering statue carved in the likeness of the painter Alfred Verwee, and restore his dignity. Along the way you see the Heilig Hartkerk, cross the Lichttorenplein and pass the Grand Casino Knokke before the trail leads on to the A-maze-D sculpture.

You play in the browser on your own phone, no app needed. It takes 1.5 to 2 hours and costs €19.95 per team: one phone, at most 4 players. Our ghost game Ghost Hunters is coming to Knokke: leave your e-mail address on this page to hear when it starts.

What can you do for halloween Knokke in the evening?

Play Secrets of Knokke in the early dark. You walk past the lighthouse square and the casino while you crack the clues as a team.
