I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Which ghost stories and dark tales belong to Edinburgh?
In 1724 Maggie Dickson was hanged in the Grassmarket. On the way to her burial, knocking was heard from the coffin: she was alive. Since she had served her sentence, she was set free and became known as Half-Hangit Maggie.
Deacon Brodie was a respected cabinet maker by day and a burglar by night. He was hanged in 1788, and his double life is often linked to Robert Louis Stevenson's Jekyll and Hyde.
Greyfriars Kirkyard is one of the most famous graveyards in Scotland. It holds the tomb of George Mackenzie, the persecutor of the Covenanters, and many visitors say his restless spirit still haunts it.

Which games take you through the Old Town?
Secrets of Edinburgh is the obvious choice for Halloween: you follow Maggie Dickson through the closes and wynds and track down the cursed Hangman's Hood. On the way you pass Deacon Brodie's Tavern, the Greyfriars Bobby statue and Greyfriars Kirkyard. It runs in the browser on your own phone, no app.
Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Edinburgh is a detective case with a story based on Sherlock Holmes, past Old College and the National Museum of Scotland.
The Edinburgh Syndicate (outdoor escape game) is an outdoor alternative to an escape room for 2 to 5 players, from the Tron Kirk to St Giles' Cathedral and the Camera Obscura. Both of these use the free Loquiz app.
How does Scotland celebrate Halloween?
Halloween has deep roots here: it grew out of the old Celtic feast of Samhain, when the border between the living and the dead was thought to be thin. Scottish children have long gone guising, dressing up and performing a song or joke in return for a treat, and turnip lanterns were carved long before pumpkins.
Our ghost game Ghost Hunters is coming to Edinburgh. Leave your e-mail address on this page and we will tell you when it starts, so your next halloween Edinburgh night can be a real ghost hunt.
Is there a halloween Edinburgh discount?
Yes. With the code HALLOWEEN50 you get 50% off all our games, valid until 2 November.
What does a game cost?
€19.95 per team: one phone, at most 4 players. The Edinburgh Syndicate is played with 2 to 5 players on one phone.
Can we play in the dark?
Yes, you start whenever you like, and the Old Town closes are at their most atmospheric after sunset. A game takes 1.5–2 hours.
Is it too scary for children?
No. The games tell the city's dark history as a puzzle trail, not as horror, so families can play together.
