Slauerhoffbrug Tourist attractions
Have you already heard about The Slauerhoffbrug? The Slauerhoffbrug, is a fully automatic bridge in the city of Leeuwarden. It is a road bridge that carries the Slauerhoffweg over the Harlingervaart. It was completed in 2000. And, a tail bridge can be raised and lowered quickly and efficiently from a pylon (instead of hinges). This allows fast passage of water traffic and only briefly blocks road traffic. This bridge is one of our favourite places to stop at when visiting the city. And it’s definitely not a sight you want to miss!
Historic downtown Leeuwarden
The historical center of Leeuwarden is the perfect place to visit to see a variety of stores and buy all kinds of things. It is located in the center of the city and surrounded by the typical Dutch canals. There are many restaurants of all kinds for a lovely bite to eat. Lastly, if you are making your way through Leeuwarden, be sure to stop in the center for some iconic photos!
De Oldehove Tourist attractions
Did you think the Leaning Tower of Pisa was the only leaning tower? Oldehove is an unfinished church tower in the center of Leeuwarden. During the construction of the building it started to fall, so the project was stopped between 1532 and 1533. Finally, the church was demolished between 1595 and 1596, leaving only the tower. If you are looking for a great historic spot to take some photos, make sure you stop here before leaving town!
Museumhaven Leeuwarden
The Leeuwarden Port Museum Foundation manages the Port Museum in the center of Leeuwarden as a place for nautical heritage and is the owner of the former Stânfries X rotating ship. Lastly, the Port Museum extends to the quays of the Willemskade and the former rotating dock of the Wirdumerpoortsdwinger. This museum is one of our favourite spots to visit in the city. Make sure you don’t skip this one!
