I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

What makes the Sabelspoort worth noticing?

The Sabelspoort is a historic city gate at Markt in Arnhem. Its gate form gives you something concrete to look at during a walk through the city. Stand back to take in the whole structure before looking more closely at its different parts. You can enjoy the stop without turning it into a test of historical knowledge.

A useful approach with a group is to ask what each person noticed first. Some may focus on the passage, others on the building above it. Those observations do not need to agree. Give the gate its own sightseeing moment, then return to the chosen game. That change of attention keeps your walk connected with the actual city rather than only with the phone.

Which games connect the gate with your walk?

Secrets of Arnhem, Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Arnhem and The Arnhem Syndicate (outdoor escape game) pass the Sabelspoort. Secrets leads from Kerkplein past Eusebius Church and the gate, with puzzles along the way. On its route you see Arnhem Centraal Station, Willemeen and the historic centre. The detective case follows Kerkplein and the Eusebius towards John Frostbrug; you also see Rozet and the Airborne Museum at the Bridge.

The Syndicate follows Magnus and the stolen formulas from Kerkplein by Eusebiuskerk to Sint Walburgisplein. You see Koningstraat, Eusebiuskerk and Broerenstraat. It is an outdoor escape game through the streets. Decide between exploration, investigation and a chase before selecting your team’s story.

What are the game conditions in Arnhem?

The listed Arnhem games cost €19.95 per team and take 1.5 to 2 hours. Up to four players share one phone for Secrets and Sherlock, or up to five for The Syndicate. All three use the free Loquiz app. Agree on the phone you will share and prepare it before heading out.

You can start whenever you want, every day, and your purchase is valid for twelve months. Choose a time that leaves room to discuss tasks. Let different people explain an answer, rather than asking the phone holder to decide everything. This makes the walk a group activity and allows more than one way of thinking to help your team continue through the city.
