I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Why make time to look around Grote Markt?

Grote Markt is a square in Breda that gives your walk a place to pause and take in the surrounding city. Look across the whole space before focusing on particular buildings or views at its edges. Briefly putting the phone aside can help you notice more than the next game instruction.

If you are with others, compare the things each person noticed. You do not have to invent a separate puzzle or know the history of every facade. The square can simply be a shared sightseeing moment. Afterwards, return to your chosen game and keep exploring. That alternation between looking and playing gives your group a way to enjoy both the city and the challenge you selected.

Which routes pass or start on the square?

Secrets of Breda starts from Grote Markt, while Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Breda and The Breda Syndicate (outdoor escape game) also pass it. Secrets combines exploration with puzzles; you see Breda Castle, the Nassau-Baronie monument and De Vlucht along the route. The detective case runs from Grote Kerk and Grote Markt to Breda Castle. You see Grote Markt, Begijnhof and the castle on that route.

The Syndicate tracks Magnus and the stolen formulas from Grote Kerk on Kerkplein to De Haven. You see Torenstraat, Grote Kerk and Spanjaardsgat. This is an outdoor escape game played on the streets. Pick the shared story first so your walk suits what your team wants to do together.

How do you prepare the practical side?

The listed Breda games cost €19.95 per team and take 1.5 to 2 hours. Secrets and Sherlock allow up to four players sharing one phone; The Syndicate allows up to five. All three use the free Loquiz app. Decide which phone you will use and prepare it for the chosen game before you set off.
