I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

How can you appreciate the church during play?
The Grote of Sint-Catharinakerk is a church in Heusden that you can see during both featured walking games. Its building gives your group an architectural focus alongside the town gates and other places on the routes. Pause to look at the exterior before returning to the phone, and compare what different companions notice. That lets the sightseeing become a conversation as well as the game itself. If you want a separate church visit too, organise it independently and allow additional time. The walking activity connects several places, while your group decides how quickly to move between looking and playing.

Which Heusden story would you rather share?
Secrets of Heusden and Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Heusden both pass the church. Their routes take you past Oude Herptse Poort, the church and Wijkse Poort. The exploration walk introduces the mills, ramparts, old town gates and fortress harbour. The detective game gives your companions a murder case to follow from Wijkse Poort towards the town harbour. Because the walks share several stops, choose mainly by the activity you want to do together between them. Explore the town through the first option or keep discussing an investigation through the second, with both played at your group's own pace.
How do you organise the shared-phone activity?
Both Heusden games cost €19.95 per team, last 1.5 to 2 hours and use the free Loquiz app. A team can have at most 4 players sharing one phone. Select the device before starting, then let all companions contribute ideas even when one person handles the screen. A couple can discuss decisions closely, while friends or colleagues can compare different ideas as they walk. You can start whenever you want, every day, with validity for 12 months. Leave time separately for other Heusden visits so the self-guided game stays a flexible part of the day you arrange together.
