I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

How we check reviews

These reviews were left by players on Google and other review sites and are copied from there as they are, with their source.

Where does Canal Street appear on the route?

Secrets of Leiden includes Molen De Valk, a route stop named French Pear Top, Canal Street and Engelse Poort in that walking order. The game also shares stories about the city’s canals and university, adding context to a walk with puzzles and photo tasks. Canal Street is a location to encounter as you play, giving your group another reason to look around between prompts. You do not have to turn the outing into a race for answers. Take time to discuss the current task and compare observations, so the whole team can participate in the discovery rather than simply following the person carrying the phone.

Which alternatives offer a stronger story focus?

Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Leiden follows a detective case from Stadhuisplein to Burcht and Pieterskerk. Choose it when your group wants an investigation to unravel while walking. The Leiden Syndicate (outdoor escape game) pursues Magnus and the stolen formulas, with Vismarkt, Hooglandse Kerk, Hooglandse Kerkgracht and Dullenbrug appearing along its route in that order. The outdoor mission gives the group a shared objective in the streets. Compare these choices with the discovery tasks of Secrets before selecting a game. That lets you shape the activity around what your companions enjoy, whether they prefer exploring through varied tasks or following a case or pursuit together.

How do the shared phone and team price work?

Each Leiden game costs €19.95 per team and uses the free Loquiz app. Secrets and Sherlock Holmes accept up to four players on one phone; the Syndicate accepts up to five. Plan around 1.5 to 2 hours for your chosen adventure. You can start daily at a flexible time, and the purchase remains valid for 12 months. Choose a suitable moment in your plans and give the group enough time to enjoy the route. Share the phone’s prompts whenever a new challenge appears, so everyone can contribute an idea or check an interpretation before you answer. The activity is collaborative even though the team uses just one device.
