I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

What makes the windmill part of a game outing?
The windmill is a listed stop on Secrets of Leiden, giving your route a named place to notice while exploring together. Rather than making the mill the whole purpose of the day, you can connect it with a walk that offers your companions something to solve and discuss along the way.
Take a moment to look at the building before turning back to the phone. This keeps the setting present in the outing instead of leaving it as a label on the route. Any separate visit inside the mill should be planned independently, as no admission or interior visit is specified for the walking activity.

How does the exploration route continue?
Secrets of Leiden includes the windmill, then the route stops named French Pear Top, Canal Street and Engelse Poort. The activity combines puzzles, photo tasks and stories about the city, giving the walk different ways to involve your team. Each named place offers a new setting as you continue on foot.
Up to four players share one phone using the free Loquiz app. Let everyone hear the task and suggest an approach before you decide on an answer. One companion can read while another explains an idea, and those roles can change. The point is to keep the activity shared while you explore the route together.
Would an investigation suit your companions instead?
Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Leiden offers a separate detective walk from Stadhuisplein to the Burcht and Pieterskerk. Choose it if a continuing case appeals more to your team than varied exploration tasks. Select the Secrets walk for the route that includes the windmill and its mix of puzzles, photographs and stories.
Both activities cost €19.95 per team of up to four players and use the free Loquiz app on one phone. Each takes 1.5 to 2 hours, offers a flexible daily start and remains valid for twelve months after purchase. You can choose the activity with your companions and find a suitable day afterwards.
