I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Where does the monument fit into Secrets?

Secrets of Oudewater includes Hermann de Man, Handen aan het bed monument, City Hall Oudewater and Visbrug in that walking order. These locations give your discovery walk a sequence of places to notice while you solve riddles and photo tasks. Let the monument be a moment to look at your surroundings without adding an invented story about what it commemorates. The game provides the shared activity, while the real places make up your route through town. Compare observations with your companions and discuss possible answers before choosing one, giving everyone a chance to take part in the discovery as you continue your walk together.

How is the detective adventure different?

Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Oudewater follows a detective case from the rope museum towards Grote or St. Michaelskerk. Its route includes Touwmuseum De Baanschuur, Marktstraat, Stadhuis Oudewater and Sint-Franciscuskerk in that order. Choose it if your group enjoys discussing a case rather than following a discovery walk with photo tasks. Either format gives the town outing a purpose, but the kind of challenge you share will be different. Ask your companions which premise appeals before making the choice, then follow that adventure together. Keep any interior visits you want to arrange separate from the game so the walking activity has its own time in your day.

What does one team need to play?

Both Oudewater games cost €19.95 per team, accept up to four players on one phone and use the free Loquiz app. Allow around 1.5 to 2 hours for the activity. Starting times are flexible daily, and your purchase remains valid for 12 months. Choose a time when the group can enjoy the walk without hurrying from one task to another. As you play, read or show each prompt to your companions so everyone knows what the team is solving. A different interpretation can make the next answer more interesting, and sharing those ideas helps every player stay involved throughout the outing rather than following the phone in silence.
