I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

How we check reviews

These reviews were left by players on Google and other review sites and are copied from there as they are, with their source.

Which detective route includes the city hall?

Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Oudewater includes Touwmuseum De Baanschuur, Marktstraat, Stadhuis Oudewater and Sint-Franciscuskerk in that walking order. These locations give your group real surroundings for a fictional investigation. Notice the city hall during the route and arrange any interior visit independently of the game. Your companions can compare what a clue might mean before choosing an answer together, with each player able to contribute an observation. Share the prompt so the reasoning stays open to everyone. That leaves attention for the town as well as the case, instead of making the screen the only focus while you continue the adventure on foot together.

What does the discovery game offer instead?

Secrets of Oudewater includes Hermann de Man, Handen aan het bed monument, City Hall Oudewater and Visbrug in that walking sequence. Riddles and photo tasks give your group things to do between real locations. Choose this discovery format if your companions prefer varied challenges to following a detective plot. Agree on which activity everyone wants before selecting a game, then focus on one adventure together. Each person can compare observations and suggest possible answers during the walk. The phone connects the tasks, but your conversations and the surroundings remain part of the outing. Keep separate visits outside the activity so the game and other plans each have their own time.

How do you plan price, time and the shared phone?

Both adventures cost €19.95 per team, take around 1.5 to 2 hours and allow up to four players sharing one phone. They use the free Loquiz app. Flexible daily starts and 12 months of validity let you choose a suitable occasion. Leave enough room in your plans for the walk and the tasks without rushing into another activity. During play, read prompts aloud or show the screen so every companion follows the current challenge. Comparing different ideas can make the next response a shared discussion, keeping all players involved even when someone else is carrying the device and entering the answer the team has chosen together.
