I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Where can you pause to see Janskerk?

Janskerk is a church at Janskerkhof 26 in Utrecht. You can look at its exterior during a city walk, taking in the whole building before focusing on smaller parts. Its setting gives your team a moment to notice an actual place rather than only follow the next instruction. Compare what caught each person’s attention without creating a separate quiz. Then return to your game and continue together. The church can be a sightseeing stop within a shared activity that takes you through more of Utrecht.

Which detective story passes the church?

Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Utrecht passes Janskerk and follows a case from Stadhuisplein along Oudegracht to the Dom Tower. On its route you see Centraal Museum and the Dom Tower. Choose it if your group enjoys investigation as a shared task. Agree on your team phone before leaving, but let different people explain possible answers. Someone without the device may offer a useful idea. This keeps the story something you follow together rather than only walking behind the person who holds the phone.

Which chase and exploration routes can you compare?

The Utrecht Syndicate (outdoor escape game) also passes Janskerk, chasing Magnus and the stolen formulas from Stadhuisplein along Oudegracht to Domtoren. Along its route you see Stadhuisplein, Janskerk and Janskerkhof. It is an outdoor escape game on the streets. Another choice is Secrets of Utrecht, combining puzzles, riddles and photo tasks in the historic centre. You see Nicolaïkerk, St. Catharina Cathedral and Paushuize on that route. Choose it for exploration; for Janskerk, Sherlock and The Syndicate are the named passing routes. Decide on your shared story before preparing the phone.
