I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Why give Hjelmerstald a place in your plans?
Hjelmerstald is a street in Aalborg that you encounter in both the discovery game and The Syndicate. A street can be worth noticing as a whole: look along it and take in the relationship between the buildings and the walking space. It offers a change from concentrating only on individual monuments. A city game gives your group a reason to continue looking around, with an activity to share while the different parts of Aalborg come into view during your walk.
Had great fun playing secrets of Haarlem!
What does the discovery route show you?
Secrets of Aalborg starts at Budolfi Kirke and leads across Gammeltorv with puzzles and photo tasks. Its route takes you through Hjelmerstald, then past Aalborg Kloster, Budolfi Kirke and Jens Bangs Stenhus. Choose this option if you want to mix seeing places with trying different tasks. Your phone provides the activity and your group supplies the ideas. The outing can appeal to friends, couples or colleagues who would enjoy exploring the city through something they do together.
How do the story games differ?
The Aalborg Syndicate (outdoor escape game) passes Hjelmerstald while you pursue Magnus and stolen formulas. The wider walk runs from Budolfi Church past Aalborg Kloster towards Vor Frue Kirke. On the route you see Budolfi Kirke before Jens Bangs Stenhus, then Aalborg Rådhus and C. W. Obels Plads. For a detective theme, Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Aalborg runs from Toldbod Plads past Aalborghus Castle. Its sights include the Statue of Aalborg, then Gammeltorv and the Historical Museum.
How do you choose the right team arrangement?
Each Aalborg game costs €19.95 per team and lasts 1.5 to 2 hours. Secrets and Sherlock Holmes allow at most 4 players on one phone, while The Syndicate allows at most 5. The games use the free Loquiz app. Decide which theme and team limit fit your outing, then choose a time to meet. There is no fixed starting hour to organise around: you can begin whenever you want, every day, and the game stays valid for 12 months.
