I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

What dark history does Amersfoort have?
Amersfoort needs no invented ghosts: its own past is strange enough. In 1787 the Onze Lieve Vrouwekerk was destroyed by an explosion, and only its tall tower, Lange Jan, was left standing. The square where the church stood is now the Lieve Vrouwekerkhof, and on a quiet autumn evening it is easy to picture the empty space where the church once was.
Then there is the Amersfoortse Kei, a huge boulder that was dragged into town in 1661. People from nearby towns mocked the residents for it, and Amersfoorters are still called keientrekkers, stone draggers. Add the Muurhuizen, houses built into the line of the old city wall, and the Koppelpoort water gate, and you have a town centre that feels older and darker once the sun goes down.

Which City Game fits a spooky evening in Amersfoort?
Secrets of Amersfoort is the classic choice: a walking game with puzzles and stories about Lange Jan, the Koppelpoort and the Muurhuizen. On the way you pass the Mondriaanhuis, the Varkensmarkt and the Amersfoortse Kei, and later the House with Purple Windows.
Prefer a crime? In Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Amersfoort you solve a case that leads from the Koppelpoort to the Lieve Vrouwekerkhof and Groot Tinnenburg. The story is based on Sherlock Holmes, and the old gates make a fitting backdrop in the dark.
For a group that likes pressure, The Amersfoort Syndicate (outdoor escape game) sends you after Magnus and his stolen formulas, past the Hof, the Sint-Joriskerk and the Kamperbinnenpoort. It is an outdoor alternative to an escape room, for 2 to 5 players.
Is Ghost Hunters coming to Amersfoort?
Yes, our ghost game Ghost Hunters is coming to Amersfoort, but you cannot play it here yet. Leave your e-mail address on this page and we will let you know as soon as it starts.
Until then, the games above already make a good Halloween night out. Play after sunset, when the gates are lit and the side streets are quiet, and the old town takes on a different mood. Halloween is a fairly young tradition in the Netherlands, celebrated mainly with costume parties and decorated windows, so a walk through the dark streets is a calmer way to mark the evening. Bring a warm coat, charge your phone and let one person read the clues aloud.
What does a halloween Amersfoort outing with City Game cost?
Each game costs €19.95 per team: one phone, at most 4 players. The Amersfoort Syndicate is for 2 to 5 players on one phone. With the code HALLOWEEN50 you get 50% off all our games until 2 November.
How long does a game take?
Plan on 1.5 to 2 hours of walking and puzzling. You set your own pace.
Do I need an app?
Secrets of Amersfoort runs in the browser on your own phone, no app needed. The Sherlock Holmes game and The Amersfoort Syndicate use the free Loquiz app.
Can we start after dark?
Yes, you start whenever you like, every day. An evening start in late October gives you the dark streets that suit Halloween.
Is a halloween Amersfoort city game suitable for children?
Yes, families can play together: you walk, look around and solve riddles as a team.
