I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

What makes the tower worth a sightseeing pause?
The Onze Lieve Vrouwetoren is a tower in Amersfoort that you can see during the featured detective and outdoor escape games. Its height and shape offer a different architectural focus from the streets and squares along the routes. Stop to look at it together before returning to the story on the phone. Your companions may notice different details, giving everyone something to contribute beyond solving. The game is a walking activity around city places, so arrange any separate tower visit independently and leave additional time if you want that as part of your outing.

Which stories take your group towards the tower?
Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Amersfoort and The Amersfoort Syndicate (outdoor escape game) both pass the tower. The detective story goes from the Hof towards the tower, with Koppelpoort and Lieve Vrouwekerkhof also on its route. The outdoor escape pursuit follows Magnus and stolen formulas from the Hof towards the same landmark. You see Sint-Joriskerk and Kamperbinnenpoort along that walk. Choose the investigation if your group wants a detective case, or the pursuit if you prefer an outdoor escape story in the streets. Both give you a shared narrative to discuss while exploring on foot.
Which team size should you plan around?
The detective game allows at most 4 players per team, while the outdoor escape game allows at most 5. Both cost €19.95 per team, last 1.5 to 2 hours and use the free Loquiz app on one phone. Match the story to the number of companions coming with you, then choose the shared device before beginning. Everyone can contribute ideas even if one person reads the screen. You can start whenever you want, every day, with validity for 12 months. Add time separately for any other Amersfoort visits so the game stays a flexible part of your plans.
