I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Does Arkel have a dark history?

Arkel's darkest chapter lies more than six centuries back. The village gave its name to the lords of Arkel, a powerful noble family in this river landscape. In the early fifteenth century they fought a long and bitter war against the counts of Holland, known as the Arkel War, and in the end they lost their lands.

We do not know of ghost stories told about Arkel itself, and we will not make one up. What the village does have is the quiet of the Linge, old dikes, mist over the fields on an autumn evening and streets that feel very different once the light goes. That is exactly the right setting for a murder case.

What is the detective game in Arkel like?

In the Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Arkel you play detective on foot. The story is based on Sherlock Holmes: a murder has been committed, and your team follows the trail through the village, talks to witnesses on your phone and gathers clues on the streets. Riddles and photo tasks help you piece the case together.

The game takes 1.5–2 hours and runs in the free Loquiz app. You walk at your own pace, take a break when you want and decide together who did it. Played as darkness falls, it makes a fitting halloween Arkel outing for friends, families with older children, couples or a small group of colleagues.

How is Halloween celebrated around Arkel?

Halloween is a fairly new custom in the Netherlands. In many towns and villages you now see carved pumpkins, decorated front gardens and children in costumes, and in some neighbourhoods they go from door to door for sweets. The older Dutch autumn tradition is Sint-Maarten on 11 November, when children walk with lanterns and sing at the door.

A city game fits nicely between those two: it is outdoors, it is a bit spooky, and you do it together. Our ghost game Ghost Hunters is coming to Arkel. Leave your e-mail address on this page and we will tell you when it starts.

What does it cost and when can you start?

The game costs €19.95 per team: one phone, at most 4 players. Use the code HALLOWEEN50 for 50% off all our games until 2 November. After booking you open the game in the free Loquiz app and start whenever you are ready, in the afternoon or after dark.

Bring a charged phone, a warm coat and a small torch if you play late, because village streets can be dim at the end of October.
