I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

What makes Harderwijk spooky around 31 October?

Harderwijk is an old Hanseatic town on the former Zuiderzee, and on a dark October evening you can feel that age in its walls, gates and narrow streets. The town once had its own university, where the botanist Carl Linnaeus took his doctorate in 1735, and the Linnaeus Tower and Linnaeus Garden still recall those days.

We will not invent ghost stories for a town that does not need them. The real atmosphere is enough: wind off the water, the old town wall in the dark, quiet church squares and a fishing past that you still see in the Vischpoort. Halloween itself is a fairly new custom in the Netherlands, mostly costume parties and children at the door, so a walk with a mystery to solve is a nice alternative.

Which City Games can you play in Harderwijk this Halloween?

In Secrets of Harderwijk you explore the town with puzzles and stories: on the way you pass the Linnaeus Garden, the area around the Vismarktpoort and Academiestraat by the Linnaeus Tower. In the Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Harderwijk you solve a detective case, from the Vischpoort past the Stadsmuseum to the Grote Kerk and the old town wall, which feels just right on a dark evening.

Prefer a challenge? The Harderwijk Syndicate (outdoor escape game) is an outdoor alternative to an escape room: you chase Magnus and his stolen formulas from Kerkplein past the Grote Kerk and the Marius van Dokkum Museum. All three take 1.5 to 2 hours and run in the free Loquiz app.
