I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Why start a Groningen game on Grote Markt?
Grote Markt is a square in Groningen and a starting point for all three city games described here. It gives your group an identifiable city space to recognise before the activity takes you further. Look across the square and notice the surrounding buildings together. That wider view complements the individual landmarks elsewhere on the routes. A game connects these impressions with a shared purpose. You can choose discovery puzzles, a detective case or an outdoor formula pursuit, depending on what everyone enjoys. Discuss the themes with your companions before setting off, then make the square the beginning of a wider outing you explore together.

How do the three routes explore beyond Grote Markt?
Secrets of Groningen starts at Grote Markt and explores with puzzles. You see Martinitoren before Prinsentuin, then Forum Groningen and Grote Markt along its route. Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Groningen also begins at the square, following a detective case. Its route includes Prinsentuin before Der Aa-kerk, then Forum Groningen and Grote Markt. The Groningen Syndicate (outdoor escape game) starts at Grote Markt and follows Magnus and stolen formulas through the streets. You encounter the city hall before Martinitoren, then Martinikerkhof and Forum Groningen. Compare discovery, investigation and pursuit before choosing the activity your friends, partner or colleagues would enjoy sharing during the city visit.
What are the arrangements for your Groningen team?
Each Groningen game costs €19.95 per team and takes 1.5 to 2 hours, using the free Loquiz app on your own phone. Secrets and Sherlock Holmes allow at most 4 players on one phone; The Syndicate allows at most 5. Check those limits and the theme with the people joining you before selecting what to play. You may begin whenever you want, every day, and the game stays valid for 12 months. Arrange a convenient meeting time and leave room for the playing time in your plans. That keeps the shared walk flexible to organise alongside the rest of your visit to the city.
