I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

How we check reviews

These reviews were left by players on Google and other review sites and are copied from there as they are, with their source.

Which exploration story involves a secret recipe?

Secrets of Hasselt asks you to help Jenever de Bakker recover the secret recipe for spiced speculaas. The walk passes Virga Jessebasiliek, the National Jenever Museum and Het Borrelmanneke Statue. You play in the browser on your own phone, with no app needed, in teams of at most four.

Choose this quest when your friends want a story to discuss while exploring together. One person handles the screen, but everyone can contribute observations and ideas to the team's decisions. Follow the activity at your own pace and guide yourselves through the walk. For a larger celebration, arrange several small teams with their own phones, so every group can take part within the player limit and share the challenge together.

Where can our detective team investigate?

Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Hasselt follows a case from the historic town hall to St Quintinus Cathedral and Grote Markt. It uses the free Loquiz app on your own phone and allows at most four players per team. Your friends can discuss the mystery while following the self-guided walk at their own pace.

Pick this option if your bachelor or bachelorette group likes working through a case together. Decide which friends will share each phone and invite everyone to suggest ideas during the activity. Keep competition between teams relaxed, making the detective story a common focus for the beginning of the day. There is no guide leading your group or deciding the next step, so your team makes its own decisions together.

How do we plan the party’s budget and beginning?

A game costs €19.95 per team and lasts 1.5 to 2 hours. Each team has at most four players using one phone. Calculate the team count from your guest list before booking; a larger party needs several bookings and devices within that player limit.

You may start whenever you want on any day, and the booking stays valid for 12 months. Choose the recipe quest or detective case first, then assign friends and check the phone setup. The quest runs in a browser, while the mystery uses an app. Agree a start together and allow enough time for the walk in your day's plans. These self-guided games let the group organise its own beginning and follow the chosen activity together.
