I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

Why make the Belfry part of a game walk?

The Belfry is a tower on Sint-Baafsplein in Ghent and is passed by the detective and Syndicate games. Look at its form in relation to the surrounding buildings before continuing your activity. A tower gives your walk a clear landmark to recognise, alongside the squares and bridges elsewhere on the routes. The game adds a shared purpose between those places. Your group can discuss an investigation or pursue a formula story, depending on the theme you choose. Decide what interests everyone before setting off and let the tower become one part of an outing that mixes looking around with doing something together.

How do the routes connect the tower with Ghent?

Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Ghent passes the Belfry during a case from Korenmarkt towards Gravensteen and the tower. You see Design Museum Gent, then the Belfry, Saint Michael’s Bridge and Gravensteen along the route. The Ghent Syndicate (outdoor escape game) also passes the tower while you hunt Magnus and stolen formulas from Korenmarkt towards Sint-Baafskathedraal. Its route includes Korenmarkt, then Saint Michael’s Bridge, Korenlei and Design Museum Gent. For another activity, Secrets of Ghent explores past Korenmarkt with puzzles and photo tasks. You see Graslei before Saint Michael’s Bridge and the Postgebouw during that self-guided discovery walk through the city.

How do you plan the activity with your group?

The Ghent games take 1.5 to 2 hours and cost €19.95 per team. Use one phone with the free Loquiz app. Secrets and Sherlock Holmes allow at most 4 players per team; The Syndicate allows at most 5. Compare the themes and these limits when choosing what to play with friends, your partner or colleagues. After choosing the activity, agree on a convenient time to meet and allow the playing time in your plans. You can start whenever you want, every day, and the game stays valid for 12 months. That leaves flexibility for arranging a shared walk through Ghent.
