I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

How can the art museum fit into your day?

Kunsthalle Bielefeld is an art museum at Artur-Ladebeck-Straße 5 in Bielefeld, passed by both featured walking games. You can look at the building during the walk without making a museum visit the entire outing. If you also want a separate visit, organise it independently and leave additional time around the game. This helps you keep room for the activity as well as your own sightseeing interests. At the museum stop, compare what your companions notice about the exterior before returning to the phone. Your group chooses when it is ready to continue the self-guided walk.

Which Bielefeld stories pass the Kunsthalle?

Secrets of Bielefeld and Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Bielefeld both pass the art museum. The exploration story asks you to piece together clues to guide Anna Luise von Hoheneinfalt to where she belongs. Along the route you see Bielefeld Hauptbahnhof, The Good Hood Building and the Katholisch-Apostolische Kirche. The detective story follows a murder case from Jahnplatz past the Nicolaikirche towards Alter Markt. Choose the character mission if that fictional objective appeals to your companions, or the investigation if you prefer a case to keep discussing. Both give your group something shared between looking at the real city places around you.

What differs between the two ways to play?

Secrets of Bielefeld runs in the browser on your own phone without an app, while the detective game uses the free Loquiz app. Both cost €19.95 per team, last 1.5 to 2 hours and allow at most 4 players sharing one phone. Choose the story and device before beginning, then make room for everyone's ideas even when one person reads from the screen. You can start whenever you want, every day, and the game stays valid for 12 months. Add time separately for other Bielefeld plans so the self-guided activity remains one flexible part of the day you arrange with your companions.
