I had a fantastic experience with CityGame! The concept is creative, engaging, and a great way to explore a city in a completely new way. The games are well-designed, combining puzzles, storytelling, and adventure so you’re constantly discovering something interesting around every corner. What I especially love is how CityGame turns a normal walk through the city into an interactive experience. It’s perfect for friends, families, or team outings, and it makes sightseeing much more exciting than the usual tours. Everything was easy to use, the challenges were fun and clever, and it really encouraged us to look closer at the city and its hidden details. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a unique and memorable way to explore!

This is an interesting way to conduct a self-guided Amsterdam city tour. It used the GPS on your phone to guide you to stops on a route. There are mini quizzes once you arrive at the stops on the path. The quizzes draw your attention to features in front of you or to a brief history of the place. In many cases, we visited a spot that would not have been obvious as a regular passer by. The tour as a whole was interesting to us as newcomers, but I would have liked more information on many locations we visited - a few links outside of the app for each place would have been helpful. Beyond that, the interface was a bit clunky and sometimes awkward to navigate. We definitely don't regret trying this out and feel like we got our money's worth on the experience.

How we check reviews

These reviews were left by players on Google and other review sites and are copied from there as they are, with their source.

Which story-based route passes the museum?

Secrets of Frankfurt takes you past Kunstverein and a historic square with coloured houses, then the museum and Eiserner Steg, a bridge with a skyline view. In the game, you follow clues while helping Rahel Hirsch rediscover why she returned to her hometown. The story provides a fictional thread through the real route.

Up to four players share one phone and play in its browser, with no app to install. Discuss the clues together rather than leaving every decision to the person holding the device. At the museum, allow a moment for the place itself before returning to the story and continuing the walk as a group.

What does the detective option offer instead?

Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in Frankfurt includes the museum, Stoltze-Museum, Römerberg and the New Old Town in its route. Choose this activity if your group wants a case to investigate rather than the other game’s story. The city places give the investigation changing settings while you explore on foot.

This game uses the free Loquiz app on one phone for up to four players. That differs from the browser setup of the story game, so prepare for the option you select. Let each companion explain an idea before deciding on an answer. Sharing the discussion helps the investigation remain an activity for the whole team.

How do you plan the game and any museum visit?

Both games take 1.5 to 2 hours and cost €19.95 per team. Both offer flexible daily starts and twelve months of validity after purchase. No museum admission or exhibition visit is specified, so any separate museum time belongs alongside the walking activity rather than inside its game duration.

Choose your activity with the group, agree a suitable date and prepare the shared phone for the correct setup. Talk beforehand about whether the game is the day’s main outing or one part of a longer visit. That gives everyone the same expectations, with room to notice the museum while continuing your selected story or investigation together.

Do both routes include the museum?

Yes, the museum is a listed stop in both games.

Which game needs no app?

Secrets of Frankfurt runs in your phone browser.

How do we play the detective case?

It uses the free Loquiz app on one shared team phone.

Is museum entry part of either game?

No museum admission is specified.
